Thank you for sharing, girls.
As summarised by Zoe's group, the university admission criteria has been introduced and it was considered an unfair policy towards the Tamils. This has caused further conflict between the Tamils and the Sinhalese.
The dispute between the Tamils and Sinhalese is not a clear separating line of who is at fault and who is not. What I really want you to understand is, for every conflict, there will always be multiple perspectives towards the issue.

Yes, it is definetly true that the Sri Lankan govt. were being bias towards the Tamils, which caused the Tamils to be unhappy. In my perspective, however, i feel that what really contributed to the confict between the Sinhalese and the Tamils was the resettlement of poor Sinhalese peaseants in the 1950s. This was done so that the poor Sinhalese peaseants had land to live on but it really made the Tamils unhappy and even angry as the Sri Lankan Army drove out whole villages originally owned by the Tamils and the Sinhalese peaseants were not moved individually but in large numbers. This would cause the Tamils to really be unhappy as the govt. was taking away what the Tamils had for such a long time.

You have raised a very good point, Nicholas. You have provided evidence that biasness towards one ethnic group can bring about unhappiness to another.
I will be focusing on the consequences of the conflict in our next lesson together. See you in school.
Take care
